Welcome Back! Let’s Get Set for a Great Season!
Spring has arrived at Cedarlane RV Resort, and that means it’s time to start prepping your RV for another fun and relaxing season in the heart of Ohio’s beautiful lakeside region. To help you get started on the right foot (and avoid unnecessary repairs or expenses), we’ve put together a handy spring checklist. A few simple tasks now can save you from major headaches later!
✅ Spring Start-Up Checklist for Seasonal Guests
🔥 Water Heater First: Fill Before You Fire It Up!
Before turning on your water heater for the season, make absolutely sure it’s full of water. Running your water heater dry can cause serious and costly damage.
Bonus Tip: Use propane instead of electric for your water heater—especially if you have a demand-type unit. Propane heats faster and costs less to run than electric, giving you hot water more efficiently.
⚡ Bury Those Lines: Water and Electric
To keep your site safe and compliant, please bury all water and electric lines. After Memorial Day, our grounds crew will bury any remaining exposed lines at the current labor rate.
If you’re dealing with stubborn tree roots or other obstacles, contact the camp store—we’ll be happy to provide dirt to help you cover your lines.
Reminder: Exposed pipes or conduit lying on the ground are not acceptable—lines must be buried!
❄️ Check and Clean Your A/C
Spring is the best time to make sure your air conditioner is clean and running efficiently:
Clean filters and coils for better airflow and lower energy bills.
If your fridge has a propane option, use it! Using propane for hot water and refrigeration reduces strain on the electric grid and helps prevent expensive damage to your plugs.
🔋 Battery Health Check
Most RVs rely heavily on a 12V battery system. A dying or dead battery can cause your converter to run nonstop, leading to higher electric bills—and possibly a burned-out converter.
Charge or replace your batteries as needed.
Don’t forget to replace batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors too!
🔌 Clean Electrical Plugs
Dirty or corroded plugs are a major energy waster and a fire hazard.
Use fine-grit sandpaper to clean the metal contacts on your plugs until shiny.
Then apply a small amount of dielectric grease to protect them from corrosion.
🚽 Check Sewer Caps & Connections
Temperature swings can crack or damage your black and gray water caps or site sewer fittings.
Make sure there are no leaks.
Unless your system is hard-plumbed into sanitary sewer, Health Department rules require caps be in place at all times.
🔢 Site Numbers Must Be Visible
The Ohio Department of Health requires that all site numbers:
Are at least 2” tall
Are 6” or more above the ground
Are clearly visible from the road
If landscaping or gear is blocking your number, please install one on the front of your unit to stay compliant.
